Alyssa Farah Griffin's Take: Democrats' Missed Chance to Prosecute Trump (2026)

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a host on ‘The View,’ recently expressed strong criticism towards the Democratic Party for what she perceives as their failure to take decisive action against former President Trump. She argues that they had a crucial opportunity during his first term to hold him accountable legally but let it slip away.

In a lively segment of the show, moderated by Joy Behar—filling in for Whoopi Goldberg who takes Fridays off—the discussion kicked off with questions surrounding the legality of Trump’s actions while in office, particularly in light of the recent testimony from former special counsel Jack Smith. Smith indicated that Trump indeed broke the law after leaving office. Behar questioned how Trump still occupies his position if he has transgressed the law, prompting co-host Sunny Hostin to remind her of the Department of Justice's longstanding policy against indicting a sitting president. This led Behar to wonder aloud why Trump hasn't followed in Nixon's footsteps and resigned under pressure.

Sara Haines chimed in straightforwardly, asserting that Trump is unafraid of repercussions because he hasn’t faced any accountability thus far.

Following this exchange, Alyssa Farah Griffin stepped in to provide what she labeled a "reality check" regarding the efforts to bring Trump to justice, deeming them a "missed opportunity."

She elaborated on her viewpoint, stating, "The reality is that both the investigations into January 6 and the documents retrieval were constrained by the DOJ's guidelines. However, they were fully aware they had a four-year window to investigate, charge, and prosecute any crimes before the election arrived. From my perspective, it was a disservice to the public that these matters weren’t addressed prior to the election."

Continuing her argument, she emphasized, "Once he secured the presidency, it was essentially too late. Many voices—including mine—were raising concerns about this back when it mattered. I understand the need for a thorough investigation, especially considering the complexities involved, particularly in relation to the January 6 conspiracies, which can indeed take a significant amount of time to unravel. But ultimately, it cast the responsibility onto the public to act as judge, jury, and executioner in this situation."
